Real Street Dogs

Greece has one of Europe’s worst stray animal crises. An estimated 760,500 dogs and 2.07 million cats live on the streets. But here’s the problem: when you see something every single day, you stop seeing it at all. Stray dogs had become invisible – part of the landscape people walked past, drove past, scrolled past, without a second thought.

A Little Shelter, an Athenian animal shelter that has long advocated for responsible adoption, needed to make people see the crisis again. With a limited budget but an urgent mission, we had to find a way to cut through and drive adoptions.

The idea was brilliantly simple: show people the strays they were already ignoring. We turned to Google Street View – a tool people use every day – and found what was hiding in plain sight. Real stray dogs, captured in real Google Street View images, on real Greek streets.

The campaign generated over 1 million impressions, with celebrities and other shelters sharing it to amplify awareness. The campaign sparked conversations across Greece about the stray animal crisis, but more importantly, A Little Shelter saw a 110% increase in adoption rates during the campaign's launch month.
